Missed a dose? Here is the leaflet rule
Life happens and weekly injections get missed. The official Wegovy leaflet has one clear rule for a single missed dose, and a different answer applies when the gap gets longer.
Last checked 1 Nov 2026
Short answer: within 5 days of the missed dose, take it as soon as possible and carry on with your usual day. More than 5 days late, skip it entirely and take the next dose on the normal day. Never double up. Missed more than one dose in a row? Speak to your prescriber before injecting again.
The five day rule
- 0 to 5 days late: inject as soon as you remember, then take your next dose on your usual scheduled day.
- More than 5 days late: skip the missed dose. Take the next one on the regular day, keeping the normal weekly rhythm.
- Never inject two doses close together or a double dose to catch up.
The leaflet also allows changing your regular injection day, provided at least 3 days have passed since the last injection. That is useful if a new work pattern or travel makes the original day awkward. Pick the new day once and stay consistent.
When the gap is longer than a week or two
The five day rule covers one missed dose. If supply problems, illness or a break mean you have missed two or more consecutive doses, do not just pick up again at your current dose step. Tolerance to digestive side effects fades during a gap, and prescribers commonly restart at a lower step after longer breaks. That is a clinical decision: contact your prescriber or dispensing pharmacy first, and see the restarting after a break guide for what that conversation usually covers.
Missed dose questions
I missed my weekly dose. What does the leaflet say?
The leaflet says to take the missed dose as soon as possible if it is within 5 days of when it was due. If more than 5 days have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next one on your usual day. Never take a double dose to make up.
Can I change my injection day?
The day can be changed as long as at least 3 days have passed since the last injection, according to the leaflet. If in any doubt, confirm with your prescriber or pharmacist before changing.
What if I have missed two or more doses?
Contact your prescriber before injecting again. After a longer break a prescriber may advise restarting at a lower dose step to reduce side effects, and that decision belongs to them, not the leaflet's single missed dose rule.
Should I ever double up?
No. The leaflet is explicit: do not take an extra or double dose to make up for a missed one.
